The Catfish needed just three games to dispatch West Virginia and once again it was the pitching that got it done. Jeremy Hellickson threw three shutout frames in his start and then Wilton Noel picked up the win with three shutout frames of his own. In total, five pitchers held the heavy hitting Power to four hits in the combined shutout.
Ryan Royster was the hitting star with a double and a three run homer. John Matulia singled, doubled and scored twice while both Cesar Suarez and Matthew Fields both went yard in the 6-0 win.
Heath Rollins improved to 5-0 in the Catfish’s 4-2 win over Charleston. He gave up just two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six solid innings.
Matthew Fields had the big hit of the game with a two run homer. Cesar Suarez was a perfect four for four in the game.
Lewis Rollins got it done on the mound and he improved to 4-0 in the Catfish’s 5-2 win over the Sand Gnats. He gave up just two hits and he struck out nine in six shutout innings.
Matthews Fields brought the big stick in the win. He went two for four with a homerun, a double, three RBIs and a run. John Matulia also helped out with a solo homerun.
You can’t blame the starter for this one. Woods Fines was very impressive in his start for the Catfish. He threw five no hit innings and walked three with seven strikeouts in a very impressive start. Two different relievers gave up three runs a piece in the ninth inning though and Fines got nothing to show for his efforts.
Matthew Fields had a solid game at the plate. He went one for four with a triple, a run and an RBI.
Wade Townsend threw five innings of two hit shutout ball as the Catfish won their season opener over Kannpolis. He struck out six and walked just one in the win. Also impressive on the mound was Ryan Reid. He struck out four in three innings.
Quinn Stewart had a monster game at the plate. He went two for four with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Matthew Fields hit a two run homeruns while Cesar Suarez had two hits including a double in the 6-1 win.
